"Why This Land"

A Concept Plan for the Charles H. Wharton Conservation Center (CHWCC) was developed based on Dr. Charles H. Wharton’s written concepts for the site and on the recommendations and discussions of an Advisory Panel to the Georgia Wildlife Federation, which met annually from 2004 to 2013.

  • The Concept Plan outlines a vision for the future, the mission of the CHWCC in helping to achieve that vision, and guiding philosophies and principles for the CHWCC.

  • The Concept Plan identifies six program elements: honoring the legacies of Dr. Charles H. Wharton and Mrs. Carol Miley; land conservation; land management; ecological research; experiential education; and advocacy.

  • Supporting these six elements are five administrative and operational elements: oversight; staff and volunteers; buildings and grounds; transportation; and fundraising.
